Lichgate Education Garden
1401 High Road, Tallahassee, FL
(near the intersection of Tharpe and High Road)
When we first saw the beautiful site at 1401 High Road, we were amazed that such a magical place could be found amidst the student housing and shopping centers on High Road. In 2003, we were very pleased to begin a partnership with the Laura Jepsen Institute to help beautify and maintain the property while providing garden activities and building our community of garden volunteers.
Our garden at Lichgate is our Educational Showcase garden, where we use organic practices to create beauty, a place for quiet meditation, and a source of local produce. In the Fall of 2005, we began our Garden Seminar series there, giving adults the opportunity to learn about gardening, and providing children with garden activities and environmental education.
At this garden, we build community by working together to maintain the garden, by harvesting the produce we grow, and by helping to maintain the quiet beauty of this majestic site.
We currently meet on Mondays 9:00am to 2pm to work on the garden. If you want information on volunteering for Damayan, send us an e-mail and we'll add you to our mailing list.
Lichgate is available for weddings, showers, meetings, and more. If you would like more information on renting the house for special events or to help the Laura Jepsen Institute maintain this site, please call them at (850) 383-6556.
Damayan was recently awarded a $25,000 Gardens for Good Grant from Nature's Path & Organic Gardening Magazine!
